Rohr Rates: Blue Light Protection

Research increasingly points to a link between ‘blue light’ & skin damage like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

Most of our blue light exposure comes from the sun so SPF is your first line of defence. But with electronic devices very much a part of daily life, more screen time is inevitable, meaning more exposure.

Research has shown that blue light can induce oxidative stress in skin and can penetrate deeper into the skin than UVA and UVB light, causing premature ageing. It is not all bad though, as on the other hand research has proven it to be mood boosting and an acne treatment.

Our understanding will keep growing with further research, but if you want to protect your skin you can:

  1. Wear SPF, always!
  2. Use a blue light shield or setting on your device
  3. Use skincare with antioxidants & Vitamin C that protect your skin from blue light
